Christoph Wachter and Mathias Jud will give a lecture called “Tear Down This Wall! Internet Art Circumventing Censorship and Unveiling Secret Prisons.” The talk will be moderated by Professor Deniz Göktürk (German and Film Studies).

Focusing on walls in global scale, internet artists Christoph Wachter and Mathias Jud will present their projects on sites ranging from “The Valley of the Clueless” in Dresden/East Germany to Guantanamo Bay and Chinese Internet Cafés. Their work demonstrates how the world wide web remains heavily regulated by institutional barriers and national laws. The discussion will focus on questions of access and participatory spectatorship.

There will also be a workshop with both artists on Friday, November 20, from 10a.m.-12 p.m. in the BCNM (Berkeley Center for New Media) Commons, 340 Moffitt Library.

Presented by the German department, the Multicultural Germany Project, Institute for European Studies.
