Major Requirements

Prerequisites:
German 1, 2, 3, 4 or equivalent. Students with prior knowledge of German, but uncertain as to the level of instruction to continue, should contact Nikolaus Euba (for German 1-4) for consultation at 642-2006 or euba@berkeley.edu.

Upper Division Core Courses (9 units):
The following German taught courses are required: German 100 (3), German 101 (3), and German 102 (3).

Three upper division courses with readings in German.

GRADUATION CHECKLIST
  • Courses in at least 2 different centuries
  • All Core Courses are filled (9 units)
  • GPA for Upper Division must be at least a C
  • All courses must be taken for a letter grade
  • Residency requirement fulfilled - 5 courses (15 units) must be taken here, at UC Berkeley
  • Up to 2 directly related afiliated courses outside the department allowed (Optional)

    Minor Requirements

    Prerequisites:

    Five Upper Division courses.

    • 3 of which must be taken at UC Berkeley and taught in German
    • All courses must be taken for a letter grade
    • Minimun GPA of 2.0 in Upper Division courses used for the minor

    German 198/199 (Group and Independent Study): Open to students who have completed at least 15 upper-division units with an average of no less than B. May not be counted toward the 30-unit total.
