Social Activities

The German Department at Berkeley hosts a number of recurring social activities during the semester for anyone interested, including German Film Club, Kaffeeklatsch, and Stammtisch.

The Department of German offers many extracurricular opportunities. Please see Events for a current schedule of events.

Noon Colloquium Series

This series provides a regular forum for graduate students and faculty to present their current work in German literary, cultural, and linguistic studies. The colloquium is organized and run by graduate students, and occurs at noon in Dwinelle 282 on the date listed.

We are always looking for graduate students in the department interested in presenting their research, conference papers awaiting presentation, dissertation chapters, or other projects that you would like to present in this setting (20 minute presentation, followed by a discussion). Anyone is welcome to  present. Please contact Sebastian Haselbeck ASAP if you would like to present this semester, so that we can find a suitable time slot.

Extra-Departmental Offerings

The Department of German is lucky to be situated in an area rife with on- and off-campus cultural offerings for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
